New Primary Care Centre open to patients

Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust chose to appoint a P21 contractor for the new £6 million Primary Care Centre on Grindon Lane, which is 1 of 4 similar centres being built by the Primary Care Trust. The team included Laing O?Rourke as the Principal Supply Chain Partner and P+HS Architects.

The new Primary Care Centre, which opened its doors to patients on Monday 21st November 2005, is the first of its type in the region. It provides a de-centralised minor accident and emergency service for people with minor injuries and ailments, alongside planned chronic disease management services for patients with diabetes, heart disease and similar long term conditions. These services will also have access to a range of diagnostic examinations such as x-ray and ultrasound.

Alongside these services, the centre will provide a base for out of hours GP and dental services, therefore, will be helping to prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital.
